"People are saying New York is dead and blah blah blah, but that's ridiculous," asserts Chantal Chadwick. Of Us, the boutique she started with her best friend, Lara Hodulick, in order for artists, musicians, and designers to have a space to sell their work outside of the stifling economic system, make us believe Chantal may be on to something about NYC. Offering unique, one-of-a-kind dresses, the Paul Taylor pupil reconnects fashion to the careful craft that it once was. As for her own style, that, too, radiates a remarkable depth. Draping herself in an array of fairytale dresses -- from billowy tie-dyes to Audrey Hepburn-esque black cutouts -- the dancer who's kept her hair short since age 11 is as considered with her sartorial choices as she is with her business. With plans to open up similar stores in Paris, Stockholm, and Copenhagen, Chantal and Lara are injecting the marketplace with something it so desperately needs -- a bottom-up platform.
