The What’s Underneath Project is back! And we are so thankful to Olie Biologique, one of our favorite natural skin care lines. Not only are they are a force in our movement for self-acceptance by making the next four episodes possible, but they also gave each of the four women the opportunity to create a limited edition oil that embodies their own unique and unapologetic spirit.
First up is the uncensored, unabashed, 60-year-old girl-crush jewelry designer Sarah Jane Adams. To a culture that tells women to skip over the aging process with wrinkle-stifling botox and menopause-repressing HRT, Sara says, “Fuck off. What is the benefit of skipping over anything? You don’t learn the the lesson and you don’t age gracefully.” Pairing hiphop Adidas with tribal trousers and a geisha-esque kimono, Sarah refers to herself as “an alien,” as in she exists on a “decent” planet and is a stranger to the inhumane beauty standards of Western society. “I love my belly because it’s where my babies were,” Sarah states. “I could have done , but then I would have looked like everybody else.” For Sarah, “beauty is freedom,” and freedom is found in facing your struggles, no matter how difficult, head-on: “The universe throws at you what you can just cope with, and learning how to cope with it is how you grow.”
For all of Sarah’s DGAF wit and warmth, watch her video. Then you can spread the message that you don’t need to change who you are to age gracefully by sharing this post with your friends and loved ones.
With warm and love,
Elisa + Lily
