While in the swing of our Community month, I went back to my neighbor and fellow LESider, Lindsey Thornburg, originator of the Pendleton blanket cloak, which has now become iconic (bordering on a cultural phenomenon). We schmoozed a bit about the amount of knockoff'ing that's going on (which seems to be happening at a rapid, unscrupulous, insatiable rate) and agree that being an outsider affords you the much blessed freedom of creating your own universe.
"I just want to take care of my community and give people a more hands-on experience of our brands." Lindsey is referring to the merging of her own clothes, which she sells in her Stanton Street boutique, with my other favorite designer, jeweler Suzannah Wainhouse. "People need to want something and to understand and cherish them, not just have things that come and go," Lindsey feels. When in the aura of Lindsey's seminal tie-dye dresses, Suzannah's must-have adornments (I already have two), and Electric Love's dream catchers you will know the difference between things that are transitory and things that complete your deepest wishes.
