G* LEE, More

Addicted to basketball throughout her childhood, Grace Lee (aka G* LEE) shopped  for FUBU and Nike at Modell's while her mom browsed Bergdorf's and Nordstrom. Their clothing tastes did not converge until Grace's mom gave her her black vintage Gucci sweater. Grace wore it for a week straight. "That was the moment what I started to figure out the shape of my body," explains Grace. "Black became a color I depended on because it translated my energy."

For the DJ and musician who's constantly visited by prophetic dreams (her latest one involved performing at a charity concert with Usher and Beyonce for the reunification of Korea), color is inapplicable. Like her no-frills stretch jodhpurs and stark buttoned-to-the-top starched shirts, Grace is all about masculine clean lines that say it like she is: serious. Whether it's with a black STUSSY cap or a perfect-fitting black Chanel cardigan, Grace has zero trouble relaying her strength and resolve. Not one for frivolity, Grace founded a collective of female DJs, Liaison Femme, and is putting together her debut album with Illmind, the Grammy-nominated producer who has worked with musicians such as Erykah Badu and Scarface.

As mystical as her fedora, and never one to avoid a challenge, Grace was down to participate in our Second Skin series, in which we forced her to ditch her foundational black for Goldie Rush's flower-power colors. For Grace, the experience lead to an eyeopening metaphysical breakdown. "I didn't know how to talk," reveals Grace. "It felt like a virus entered my computer and ruined all of my files." But the physical, spiritual, and mental anguish also made Grace realize who she is. The Prada patron likes women, and she's proud of it.
