Becka says that she pays attention to things and has always dug deeply, for as long as she can remember, into artists of all kinds and into who influences them. Music is primary for her, and some of Becka’s favorite musicians are her style icons, Iggy Pop for hair, Debbie Harry for clothes and Nick Cave for his Cabaret digs. At thirteen, her first record was The Clash and today Becka covets indie innovators such as Morrissey and Siouxsie and The Banshees. She is also obsessed with reading and in particular the writings of Joan Dideon, Sarah Bernhardt, Oscar Wilde, the poetry of Pablo Neruda and Charles Bukowski, and the drawings of Edward Gorey and Aubrey Beardsley. However, she attributes most of her welcoming of life and culture to her very tight circle of friends. This editorial was inspired by Becka’s fantasy of being an 80′s rock star, but has turned into a tribute to her as an artist, a figure in the NYC style scene, well-deserved for her originality, charm and ability to transform.
