They say that the first step to curing an addiction is admitting you have a problem, but when that infatuation is a true representation of one’s self-expression, confession can be endlessly fascinating. The hundreds of people that are featured on SLU all have a meaningful connection to their clothing, but it’s the essential pieces – the ones that absolutely must be worn on a daily basis – that sent us out to the Manhattan Vintage Show this past February with cameras in hand, hoping to learn even more about these material dependencies. With a bunch of muses and other aesthetically striking attendees in full regalia, seeking new pieces to feed their style habits, it was the perfect place to kick off our Addictions feature, an exploration into the pieces or rituals that we wear or perform in order to leave the house feeling like ourselves.
