Hello StyleLikeU Posse!
I’m thrilled to be taking part in this wonderful blog with all these amazing participants! I’ve had my hands full gearing up for the election so I thought I’d share with you a bit of what I’ve been working on! Wow, what a clusterf–k this political season has been. As a women I’m dumbfounded that we are actually having some of these discussions in regards to birth control, abortion, female sexual health, equal pay, Planned Parenthood… the list goes on. I always assumed that the rights I’ve taken for granted as a woman are the same rights my daughter will take for granted when she becomes a woman. I’m terrified that she will have to fight for ground that we believed we had covered. It is my firm belief that, In a year that has seen the greatest backlash against Women’s Rights in recent history, now is the time not only to vote, but to send a mandate. Tell the country, elected officials and the world that we will not stand for this any longer. We will not go backwards! We stand on the shoulders of our mothers and our mothers’ mothers who fought for our rights. I believe this election is our opportunity, women and men alike, to send a message with our vote. I’ve written a few articles about this and here they are!

I’ve also been SUPER busy with The Citizens Band. We just released our album “Grab A Root & Growl” (Album cover by Cosi Theodoli Braschi) . The title is taken from an old depression era saying from the dust bowl. When things had gotten so bad that folks were leaving the great American plains in droves, a few people stayed on the parched, dry, inhospitable land and swore to “Grab A Root And Growl”. They promised to fight for the land that they had worked so hard to cultivate. I believe the same is true today. We have to plant our feet in the ground and fight for our country and the rights that we’ve worked so hard to establish. I’m so very very proud and thrilled with this album! We all are. It’s available here: http://www.thecitizensband.net/store.shtml and on iTunes and Amazon! So cool!
The Citizens Band are also playing four nights of shows here in NYC leading up to the election. We will be performing with the whole gang and some super amazing guest stars at The Henry Street Settlement October 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th. I promise that you will float away inspired and ready for the last few days before the election! Come party with us! Tickets available here: http://www.thecitizensband.net/store.shtml
Speaking of the election, I am co-organizing a trip to Virginia for all us New Yorkers to campaign for Obama. We do this every election, and the time I spend in swing states helping get out the vote are some of the most inspiring moments of my life. In fact, a big gang from Stylelikeu are joining us this year! If you are interested in swinging Virginia for Obama and want a truly memorable and meaningful experience, go to our website and sign yourself up: http://www.thetrip2012.com/ . I promise you won’t regret it!
PHEW, that’s some of what I’ve been up to! I look forward to being part of this beautiful community and sharing all that we love together!
