Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. As a kid I would start thinking about what I wanted to be over the summer and then go to the fabric store with my Mom and she would make me my costume. I couldn’t wait until the day came and I got to dress up and go trick or treating. As an adult I have always loved looking through my closet each year and building a costume off of one piece. I’ve had this bear claw necklace my grandfather made me lying around for quite some time now. I thought it would be awesome to be something that could incorporate the necklace. What could be better than a Native American princess?!! I love everything about the Native American culture. I went to the thrift store and found a long black suede fringe skirt that I cut to make a bit more fun. I used a black American Apparel one piece I had along with my moccasins. Reached out to my Mom and got two vintage necklaces from her that she got when she was 7 years old. To complete the costume I made a headdress with beads, feathers and my Mom’s necklace and did tribal inspired makeup. It was a blast to dress up as a Native American princess. I will definitely be bringing this costume back out for events like Coachella and Burning Man.
