First Days of High-school Diary Entry?

September 5th was officially my first day of high-school at Oakwood (in the valley). For all of you who don’t believe in “valley girls,” you must have attended high-school outside of Los Angeles or the valley. Oakwood kids made me nervous. It wasn’t that I was jealous of them, I was just totally intimidated by their social skills and choice of attire after having gone to middle school at Polytechnic for two years. My mom described my day as a total “Pretty in Pink” day.

I came home late on Tuesday night after going to visit a friend in downtown and my mom was mad that I would only get 6 hours of sleep, but she still packed my lunch for me and I thought I would be totally prepared. I had planned what I wanted to wear (of course), put all of my supplies in my bag and downloaded my new Biology textbook onto my iPad. I set my alarm for 6:45am, 30 minutes before I would have to leave. I expected everything to go according to plan.

I got off on the wrong foot when my alarm didn’t go off  and my mom came in to my room at 7:03am screaming “WE HAVE TO BE THERE AT 7:20. GET UP!” I jumped out of bed, put on my (pink, past the knee, semi-floral, vintage) dress, grabbed my bag and ran to the kitchen to grab my lunch which I had set on top of my book bag. My mom was driving me to the bus stop in her girlfriend’s car so I sat down in the passenger seat, nervous about being late. At this point it was 7:13am so there was a slight possibility that I would make it until mom got in the car and realized that she didn’t have the keys. She ran inside to get them and I noticed my bag was wet and the whole car smelled like sausage. I had missed my stop so mom had to drive me to the next stop. The back of my dress was completely unbuttoned, my lunch intensely smelled of chicken sausage, and I was the only new kid on the bus. I was utterly flustered, horribly embarrassed and completely nervous for the 7 hours I was about to face on my first day of high school.
