Tziporah Salamon
occupation: fashion consultant and performance artist
I was drawn like a magnet to Tziporah when I saw her meandering through one of my favorite New York institutions, the Manhattan Vintage Show. Everything, from her embroidered fezzes and shoes, turn of the century Moroccan and Pierrot-inspired blazer’s, to her hand painted silk scarves, Tziporah believes in telling a story about yourself though your style and by exploring indigenous cultures. She says that she does not choose her clothes, but that they find her, which exemplifies that style is not about a trend but that it comes from within. In her video, I love the story that she tells about how her dress maker parents would work tirelessly through the night making her clothes, and that every morning she would wake up to something new and distinctive to wear. Tziporah is so passionate about the art of dressing, that when she was a “hippie” at Berkeley, she would disguise her Vogue magazines behind her Ms. mags. Tziporah is a force of nature, raising the bar of taste and style, but ultimately all she really cares about is making people smile.

Adore it! Tziporah is a true original, a unique artist, and very entertaining to boot. Go see her one-woman show, “The Fabric of My Life,” if you possibly can!

Mazel Tov. Wonderful video of you and I remember you as a hippie with your personal flair—even back then. Your show was delightful and hope thousands will have the pleasure of seeing you perform. It was such a thrill for me to see you and hear more of your incredible story, life and passion.

Wow this woman is amazing. She has more fashion sense and style in her pinky than most people display in a lifetime. The stories the clothes tell and how she relates fashion and style to life is amazing.

Oh my god, I love that lady! I’m not crazy about her style, but it is awesome that everything she wears seems to have a history behind it, and her approach is so refreshing – wear what makes you you, and don’t worry about what other people think. I wish more people would adopt her philosophy, maybe we would have less snooty shopgirls in the world

This woman is a sweetheart too. I had the privilege to meet her at an opening last year. She was head to toe in black and burnished gold. She is both clever and profound. Her style is her own and it suits her to a t. Watch the video and witness this style icon for yourself…xo

Thanks for the examples of combining very specialethnographic pieces with specially made-for-you trousers etc. The attention to detail with the accessories and building outfits up over time is inspirational as well. I’m going to shop my closet and do some more focused combinations.
