I found myself feeling on Halloween yesterday that some of what people see as costumes are really an excuse for them to look interesting and extraordinary. While I see the fun of the holiday, why wait for a certain day to let it go and express yourself? Miao’s favorite thing about fashion is anything “over the top,” and he doesn’t need an occasion. Miao does “more is more” so tastefully. The plaid kilt, worn over jeans with wing tip shoes, a plaid fedora, and a blazer is very Westwood’s Edwardian punk meets Marc Jacobs’s preppy twist on grunge (take out your high school uniform kilts and try throwing them over pants). The long poodle fur vest layered over python pants with classic smoking shoes is quintessential McQueen meets Tom Ford’s eclectic genius (grab your dad’s velvet slippers, they make everything chic). We are all still gasping here over Miao’s leopard YSL moccasins, which may be the some of the best shoes we have seen thus far on SLU. They are a twist on a hippie classic that make everything in your wardrobe more exciting. So the next time you buy a bag of feathers for a special occassion, try attaching them to the lapel of an old blazer, like Miao did on his Gucci one, and wear it everyday with everything!
If you like Miao, you may also enjoy Gregory Alexander, Ludwig Kuttner and Sophia Lamar.
