I am always impressed with someone who is a flat out good shopper. May manages to have a dream shoe collection without the drain on her pocketbook and how nice not to suffer with buyers remorse! If you add up the amount she has spent on many of her footwear assets, it comes to the amount of one pair at its original cost. Finding the steals is definately a skill and an enviable one, especially when you take into consideration that she doesn’t try too hard. May just seems to stumble into the right situations. Some examples of some of what she has managed to uncover for a lark are, two pairs from Phi for $150 total, the cutting edge creeper booties and their architectural, futuristic take on a ’40′s sandal, from the sample sale I never should have missed. Her expertise is not limited to her feet, there is also for example, the Alex Wang $900 dollar blazer for $200 from Opening Ceremony. May loves to pair the opposites and I particularly like how she wears utilitarian gray ribbed socks with her white, mod meets metal, open toe shoe. However, it is her clean and understated presence that jumps out at me, like her boyish gray trousers with an baggy oversized cardigan and strappy gray suede wedges. You can still see a bit of the tomboy in her, but her taste is much more refined, having discarded the Baby Phat and Airforce Ones that she was wearing in high school in Queens. Today she is a girl who lives with guys who love guys, and admits that it is a bonus in the clothing department, especially when they are fashionistas.
If you like May, you might also enjoy Siena Fleming, Cary Tauben, and Nikole Ramirez.
