"We are one person in two different bodies." Coco and Breezy

Coco and Breezy, identical twins from Minneapolis, say that together they are one person, and have literally never spent a day apart. They have had the good fortune to have each other while fending off stares in their Grace Jones meets Star Trek style. The twins’ high voltage, over-the-top line of sunglasses began when they needed to block themselves from “taunting peers.” Every day counts both in their work ethic (they sleep three to four hours a night) and in their imaginative and highly assembled outfits. Everything is possible for creating the details that make a difference, like the broken glass off of the street from a bus window that adorns one shoulder of a leather jacket, and their kingsized and king-like rings that they made with materials from Home Depot (they have the power of Gladiator chic written all over them). Despite the fact that Coco and Breezy finish each others’ food, designs, and sentences, they love to learn from other people and everything around them. For me, this is a sign of their guaranteed success, and I have a feeling this is just the beginning of these futuristic rockers.

    o em gee!!!

These two are fearless! I’ll have to watch them closely. If they come out with some vintage inspired eye wear I’m all on that!

  • kaitlin

one of my favorite videos ever, these girls are some great inspiration.

I understand being “Different” is in… But this is just sad. I’m a bit disturb. But, hey.. if you like.. i love it. Ok, maybe not.

  • Mea

    Dear Coco and Breezy,

If you want to be an inspiration to other young people, go to school. Studding oversized sunglasses really isn’t the best fall-back plan.

  • Charlotte

why all the haters? these girls are clearly doing their own thing, extremely motivated, positive, and passionate. they’re working hard, taking risks, and succeeding, so why all the judgement? i’m loving this post.

  • Renée

People are often critical of those who are over the top with their sense of fashion. Usually, it’s because they’re intimidated by it. If these girls want to dress this way, then wonderful, I give them credit because it takes a lot of guts to go out like that.

  • Carrie

My style is nothing like these girls, but i have to say, i totally appreciate and love their attitude.

  • hallie

Dear Katie, please learn how to spell “you’re.” Dear M, please learn how to spell “disturbed.”

  • jacqueline

the point of this site…if you don’t find something inspiring here, (though i do and i dress in all victorian clothes), then hit the scroll button.

  • E

So much enthusiasm and drive – good for you Coco and Breezy – I wish you every success; just loving the industrial-style jewelery.

Oh yeah, and ignore the dull-witted commenters who seize any opportunity to make snarky remarks in the mistaken belief that their ‘wit and wisdom’ is gold. This site (and a lot of the people featured on it) seem to be like cat-nip for them.

  • jean r

on behalf of myself and many other talented people in the fashion industry, who have worked very hard, studied, interned and gained crucial knowledge of the fashion world i would like to say how disappointed i am with the selection of these two minors being on the site. i feel as if there is no filtering on this site of who is considered an ‘individual’ with ‘exceptional style’. there are too many people on this site that do not exemplify what the site is actually promiting, i feel as if they are shooting anyone and everyone that sticks out like a sore thumb. merely listening to the words of these two girls, proves their immaturity and youth along with inexperience. there are so many people that look not only just like these two, who also love brag about their ‘lack of sleep’, business in the fashion world, and prove that almost anyone can make it in this industry. i am embarrassed.

  • Louielouie1212

Jean – why are you embarassed? there are hundreds of people featured on this site…if someone doesn’t strike you, just ignore their post? this site is about inspiration and people get inspired by all kinds of different things and all kinds of different people, not just those that suit your particular fancy.

  • ann

jean r, you sound like a bitter follower of the system with an inability to see and experience the excitement of self expression and i n d i v i d u a l i t y. you may have alot of experience interning, but you seem to have very little knowledge of the origins of style which has always come from the street and from the ones that stand alone and s t r e t c h the vision. do you know that the legendary Robert Mapplethorpe, who is a style icon, made and wore necklaces out of lobster claws and other shellfish in the 60′s? the point of this site is to expose the range of talent and therefore the possibilities of change from the exchange of ideas, but mostly to show people who have fun with fashion and don’t use it to exclude. Being an “insider” doesn’t give you the right to suppress pure talent. Among other things, the ring from the fastenings at Home Depot is far more avant garde than another Balenciaga bag.

  • Sara

    these girls are HOT!

  • Cirus

Wasn’t inspired one bit, sorry. I also thought that leaving long paragraphs is just ridiculous. So i’ll end it at this… CHEAP.

  • jean r

I do apologize if I insulted you. But clearly you are totally unaware of which extraordinary geniuses live in my library, one being “R o b e r t M a p p l e t h o r p e”, as well as the visionaries that I surround myself with. My expression was not the comparison of creativity to lobster claws, Balenciaga bags, or Home Depot nuts and bolts. This is merely a question of taste. Taste is something you are born with, if you weren’t aware. So truly Ann, I am not offended by what you are saying because you are oblivious and indeed this is a question of taste, which can not be acquired over time. The fact of the matter is this; people like these girls are getting loads of exposure when Ann, if you knew anything about talent in the industry, there is a heaping amount of young people that should be on this website getting press and being recognized, but since they are not sticking out like a sore thumb gluing nuts and bolts to their heads like it’s Halloween, they are not getting press. And you have no idea what my position in the industry is, nor my background, and obviously you do not because you are speaking like a minor.

  • marissa

i think this debate is ridiculous. this site features SO many different styles. understated, over the top, and everything in between. that’s why i love it, because the site doesn’t discriminate. if you want something more understated or “sophisticated,” just scroll down, there are plenty of those sorts of posts!

  • RandomWalker

I don’t think you’re born with taste, it’s something that can be acquired and learned, like a trait. What did annoy me is their constant plugging of the word random, it’s like using ironic when you mean coincidental. Random? For the most part they just meant to say they were surprised or had no logical explanation of something.

  • lela

    Your future looks bright!

  • allison

this argument is ridiculous. why do people get worked up when they dont like someones sense of style. worry about something else. if there is one thing styleikeu.com has taught me its to respect people with a point of view no matter if i like it or not at least there trying to say something.

  • eVp

Love to re-visit these two in a few years. The jewelry they are designing is *fab*! Not a huge fan of the eyeglass embellishment but I think their youthful attitude and energy is great and they should continue to experiment. At their age, it’s all about having fun. Why not?

  • Louielouie1212

    amen

  • macbride

to jean, get a life, if you dont like someone thats fine but why you would waste your time being insulting is beyond me. Only someone that is really insecure about their own successes have to flaunt their accomplishments and resume. So hopefully for your sake you actually are someone important otherwise that would be really pathetic. These chicks rock and all the haters r to be expected.

  • Imani

I like them because their hard workers and they do what they believe in

  • Mara

I love this post, Coco and Breezy are amazing and inspiring. Thank you for doing what you do.

  • Ms. Fab

    I love them.

  • jay

I agree with Marissa about loving this site because of all the completely different styles, but what I find sad about these two is that they seem so insecure, both trying to hide behind their style and each other. They say they can’t cope with being apart from the other twin and they always have similar style in the way they dress and accessorize. Wheres the individualism in that? They also say they are shy without their glasses, which shows they use them as a shield and not just as an extension of their style.

  • MARY

style is sometimes born out of insecurity. in this world nothing is certain and everything is possible. to overcome your insecurities with the extension of the style is like hamering the shit out of society with a jedi sword. i do not blame them.

  • t

i am detecting some bitching activity…

  • RayW

immediately went on their site and ordered 3 pairs of sunglasses. that’s how i roll. ;)

  • mi

erm people, have you checked out their site?? they’re doing pretty well hey…

  • Ashleigh

I agree with Mi. I can understand how Jean is frustrated but the number one thing besides talent in the fashion industry is networking at marketing. These girl know how to market themselves. If they sound immature it’s because they are 19 year old GIRLS. Doesn’t matter the lingo they use. Jean instead of bitching and knocking their hustle online, I suggest you get out there and start working. I dont like everything that they wear, but regardless they are doing the damn thang. And I cant hate on young independent black girls that are making a name for themselves in this society. Especially as crappy as the economy is.

  • sasha

i ordered 2 for me and 2 for my friend… i love em….i love what u to do…dont mind the haterz…if yall read this i will rock any glasses yall dont want….love u guys

  • IHaveTaste

I absolutely love this site, and usually leave extremely inspired, but really? These two? They have absolutely NO idea. Their brand and designs will be rendered absolutely irrelevant in 2 seasons, and their lucky if it even lasts that long. They look like tasteless hipsters that go out to terrible dj dance nights, BEG for attention and clamor over cobrasnake.

Their designs aside, these two have TERRIBLE personal style. Ugly faux fur and cheap thrifted sequins? oh yeah, WHAT ORIGINAL AND GROUND BREAKING PERSONAL STYLE! American apparel leggings and faux leather jackets? Where do they come up with this stuff? Never EVER seen anyone rocking that before!

    GIVE ME A BREAK! UGHHH

    AND ON A SIDE NOTE
    Where are their upper lips?

  • SamBamThankYouMaam

It’s not cool to be mean to young people. Ever.

I love their intense bond, I dig their lips and I like that there are more brown and black people on the site. Would love to see even more women of color. Dig the shoes too.

I love these girls! I actually got the chance to interview these girls & personally know them… Im from Houston, when they came down we immediately met up just to kick it… I think that alot of people who are making negative comments about these two are a lil bitter or jealous. Some people can go to fashion school & learn the ins & outs & some people are just born with that special sense. Fashion & art collide on every run way & who’s to say whats art or not… & you can chec out my interview with these girls here. http://geyahsblog.wordpress.com/interviews/ along with others.

    Good evening.
Do not attempt to adjust your radio, there is nothing wrong.
We have taken control as to bring you this special show.
We will return it to you as soon as you are grooving.

Welcome to station WEFUNK, better known as We-Funk,
Or deeper still, the Mothership Connection.
    Home of the extraterrestrial sisters,
    Dealers of funky style.
    P.Funk, uncut funk, The Bomb.

  • mel

these comments are hilarious!! i personally wouldnt wear any of their sunglasses. and their style is not my taste and way too extreme… BUT i respect their hustle. and in the coming years i think education is going to be put on trial on how legitimate it is to be “SUCCESSFUL” especially in America. I mean, come on, they are living the american dream.America is about entrepreneurship and endless opportunities that do not come from privilege. Fashion is always changing nothing is concrete, so their challenge will be to spur that change, and never lag behind.

Plus, they are African American from Minnesota, like they are def tryna get out of that boring ass state and never return.,

  • Tatum

Seems like there are A LOT of old SOURAPPLE BITTER BITCHES commenting on this blog.

You don’t have to like “THEIR” sense of fashion or their glasses but their is no reason to try to discredit them or knock their hustle. At least they are DOING something that does not include being objectified by men, selling ass or snitching on which rappers they fucked this week.

I love them! I love them! LOVEEEEE them!
Their style is OVER the top & a breath of fresh air esp in the “black & latina” community. Since most of us are lead to believe that “blending” in ALL we should do.

CoCo & Breezy are the shit! I wish them well & deff see them going far in the fickle fashion world. Oh lehs do iiiit !

I was just introduced to C&B a short while ago, and then I found your site. I’m really inspired by these young ladies, especially after a bold move to NYC, and making it no doubt. I wonder sometimes when people bash and don’t even know someone. Although, their style is not mine, I do appreciate it. I say go C&B!!!!!
