1) How did you find Alec?
I scouted him at The Bowery Hotel lobby one night while drinking wine with Billie Madley (who we need to feature one day).
2) What did Alec’s inspire you to buy?
I am a sucker for men’s button down shirts and can’t have enough, so let’s just say that Alec has reinforced my obsession. I have also been wanting his classic APC jeans, and it is on my mind to get them soon.
3) What’s the first thing you remember from your shoot with Alec?
How self deprecating and funny he is. I laughed my whole way through reading the transcript of his interview, which is filled with rawly honest lines like this one,”I don’t think I possess any good qualities whatsoever…I think that I’m a total train wreck.”
4) What is your favorite thing about Alec’s style?
The fit and simplicity of his clothes. His Wallabee and loafer obsession. HIs perfectly unkempt and wild hair. And the fact that he won’t wear something with a message on it that doesn’t represent him (except for his Lil Wayne tee that represents the end of the world).
5) Emotionally, what has stayed with you since your interview with Alec?
That he had the guts to leave NYC for Portland after growing up here.
6) What was your favorite thing that Alec said during the interview?
“People say upon meeting me … ‘oh you’re not gay? Or oh you’re not French?’” is so poignant in terms of how unenlightened out culture is right now for men if they care about clothes.
7) What surprised you about Alec?
How fluid the Dossier team is about putting their gorgeous and culturally relevant magazine together. I admire how they let the artist and subject create the content. It is very similar to our message and content.
